Cross-border Transactions

In addition to the cross border legal transaction and dispute works, we have considerable experience to provide both Japanese and non-Japanese clients with the following traditional legal services relating to cross border transactions.

We proactively advise both private companies and governmental agencies with regard to international trade laws, such as World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreements and regional trade agreements including the TPP.  Our lawyers have extensive experience as outside and in-house counsel to companies, governmental agencies and the WTO.

Furthermore，based on our expertise in the field of international trade in China, we advocate for international trade policies for both domestic and foreign companies and industry groups, by analyzing relevant legal matter of international trade and approaching relevant governmental authorities in order to support the interests of companies and industries.  

Inheritance

We manage the drafting and enforcement of written wills, inheritance planning, heritage division consultation and other related matters.  In addition, we handle bequest projects for public interest corporations or other charitable organizations, regardless of the parties of the bequest. 

We also deal with international inheritance matters in co-operation with foreign law firms and respond to requests regarding the investigation of estates in China and research on Chinese law.

In relation to inheritance, we focus on assisting our clients through various services such as drafting and probating wills, making proper inheritance plans and negotiating and drafting inheritance division agreements. We also support cases of bequests to charitable organizations, on behalf of either the bequeather or inheritor. With the increasing number of inheritance cases involving non-Japanese nationals, we will continue to strengthen our collaboration with overseas law firms to provide better service for our clients.

We also respond to research requests from clients and foreign law firms regarding assets in China and Chinese laws applicable to such assets.

Divorce

We deal with family law matters, mainly cases of divorce involving both conciliation and litigation, and those related to the sharing of expenses arising from separation during marriage. In collaboration with law firms abroad, we also provide services for cases involving non-Chinese nationals in the growing area of international divorce.

We provide a comfortable and professional atmosphere where we can meet with each client privately. We are striving to make the adoption process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Adopting a child from a foreign country can bring great pleasure and satisfaction for people. But it’s also challenging and confusing. When adopting a child from another country, it is of paramount importance that you educate yourself on international adoption process, eligibility requirements, and immigration related issues. You should also check and research about the governmental adoption agency you chose to work with. We recommend that you’d better consult us before proceeding the foreign adoption process.

Visa & Immigration

Our practice group provides substantial and detailed support for our clients’ global human strategy and investment policies, rather than simply help with documentation for a working visa.

Further, we efficiently support domestic clients in obtaining overseas working visas as part of their foreign investments or business development by utilizing our local offices and strong relationships with local law firms.  

Labor Disputes

It is enormously burdensome for companies to respond to labor litigation, labor tribunals, petitions for referees to the Labor Relations Committee or disputes and negotiations with labor unions.  In particular, as labor laws tend to be pro-labor, companies are aware that such labor disputes are an up-hill battle.  Also, it may be a heavy burden for companies to prove facts that are favorable to them.  In order to handle these labor disputes tactically, in addition to knowledge of the legal and theoretical issues involved, considerable practical experience is necessary.

We provide expert advice to companies from the viewpoint of preventing disputes, as well as representing companies in disputes to the best interest of our clients.

Moreover, in the case of such foreign companies whose headquarters or human resources departments are located overseas, it is necessary to pay attention to the differences in Chinese labor law and practices, and to coordinate with the responsible foreign persons for dispute resolution. Moreover, in litigation or labor tribunals or other legal proceedings, it is necessary to inter-translate materials in different languages in order to discuss the content of the allegations and strategies. We have considerable experience with these types of cases and we are capable of achieving satisfactory outcomes.
